Grant from Performing Arts Fund

Earlier this week the Dutch Performing Arts Fund announced that Rozalie Hirs is the recipient of a grant for her new composition for Klangforum Wien and Vokalensemble NOVA. The composition will be premiered during Urbo Kune on 6 June 2015 at 14:25 CET in the Main Hall of Muziekgebouw aan’t IJ, Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

The new work (music, text), a commission by Holland Festival, is scored for eighteen players (2fl, cl, bass cl, cfg, cor, tp, tb, 2perc, pf, acc, midi keyboard, 2vlns, vla, vc, cb), eight singers (2SATB), and electronic sounds.

Infinity stairs (2014) – world premiere

Rehearsal with Fie Schouten, Shanna Gutierrez, and Wiek Hijmans (playing sketches for 'Infinity Stairs' (2014) by Rozalie Hirs)On 17 September 2014 at 20:30 CET Shanna Gutierrez, Wiek Hijmans, and Fie Schouten will present a recital with works by Mauricio Kagel, Jorrit Dijkstra, Kaija Saariaho, Morton Feldman, Frederick Gifford, Christian Wolff, and Rozalie Hirs. The recital features the world premiere of two new trios: Infinity stairs (2014) by Rozalie Hirs, and Adage of Spontaneity (2014) by Fredrick Gifford.

With special thanks to Christian Karlsen (conductor) and Arne Bock (sound projection in the hall)

Infinity Stairs [Invitation]

Rehearsal with Fie Schouten, Shanna Gutierrez, and Wiek Hijmans (playing sketches for 'Infinity Stairs' (2014) by Rozalie Hirs)

You are cordially invited to the concert Infinity Stairs today at 20:30 CET at Bethanienklooster, Barndesteeg 6b, Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Shanna Gutierrez, Wiek Hijmans, and Fie Schouten will present a recital with works by Mauricio Kagel, Jorrit Dijkstra, Kaija Saariaho, Morton Feldman, Frederick Gifford, Christian Wolff, and Rozalie Hirs. The recital features the world premiere of two new trios: Adage of Spontaneity (2014) by Fredrick Gifford, and Infinity stairs (2014) by Rozalie Hirs. Infinity stairs was written with financial support of a composition stipend of the Netherlands Performing Arts Fund.

article 8 [infinity] (2014) – world premiere

Shanna Gutierrez (flute) plays the world premiere of article 8 [infinity] (2014) by Rozalie HirsOn 12 September 2014, at the event New Adventures in Performance during the Gaudeamus Music Week, Pete Harden (guitar), Susanna Borsch (recorder), and Cherish Menzo (dance) present and add to the neon elk a pinch of tarragon by Marina Poleukhina (RU 1989), who is nominated for the Gaudeamus Prize 2014.

The concert starts off with a performance by Shanna Gutierrez (flute, bass flute), who presents Sur les débris for bass flute and electronics (2013) by Francisco Castillo Trigueros (MX 1983), nominated for the Gaudeamus Prize 2014, as well as the world premiere of article 8 [infinity] (2014) for flute and electronic sounds by Rozalie Hirs, who was chairman of the jury of the Gaudeamus Prize in 2011.

Ain, silabar ain – world premiere

David KweksilberOn 25 March 2013, the new composition Ain silabar ain for big band (2013) by Rozalie Hirs receives its world premiere at BIMHUIS, Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The new work is a commission by David Kweksilber Big Band with financial support of the Dutch Performing Arts Fund.
