Artist-in-residence, Van Doesburg House, Paris, France
From 1 September until 31 December 2019 composer Rozalie Hirs and architect Machiel Spaan live and work as artists-in-residence at the Van Doesburg House, Paris, France. During their stay the two create Ways of Space (2019), a new interdisciplinary architectural sound art installation. The residency is made possible through grants from Mondriaanfonds and the Netherlands Performing Arts Fund.
The Van Doesburg House was designed by De Stijl artist and architect Theo Van Doesburg for himself and his wife, the pianist, artist, and curator Nelly van Moorsel. It is an inspiring, transformative building with movable inner walls.
During their artist-in-residence at Maison Van Doesburg, Machiel Spaan and Rozalie Hirs have initiated and curated the ‘Open Saturday’ series, consisting of five events across the various disciplines related to the work of Theo and Nelly van Doesburg.
