Venus [morning star] (2010) – Swiss premiere

On Monday 9 December 2019 at 20:15 CET Ronan Gil de Morais plays 40 Jahre Sixxen, a concert featuring the sixxen, a set of six metal mallet instruments, originally conceived by Iannis Xenakis for the movement Métaux of his composition Pléïades (1979). The concert, consisting of the performance of a selection of compositions for this special set of instruments, includes a tryout of Venus [morning star] (2010) by Rozalie Hirs, Métaux by Xenakis, as well as a new piece scored for sixxen and gamelan. The sixxen instruments used during the concert are made by LUNASON, Basel. The location is Großer Saal at Musikakademie, Basel. With special thanks to Sarah Brabo-Durand.

Gil de Morais and friends will play several compositions for Sixxen instruments, newly built by LUNASON, Basel. On 1 December 2019 at 13:30 CET, bass clarinettist-at-large Fie Schouten performs during MicroFest Amsterdam 2019, a one-day festival for microtonal music at Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ, Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Her program clarinets in space includes article 7 [ways to climb a mountain] for bass clarinet and electronic sounds (2012) by Rozalie Hirs.

The festival is curated by the Huygens-Fokker Foundation (artistic director: Sander Germanus).
